New study in BMJ: Can vitamin D protect against COVID-19?

September 7, 2022

A study from our collaborators at the Oslo University Hospital on vitamin D supplementation for COVID-19 was published in the British Medical Journal today: Supplementation with cod liver oil in the winter did not reduce the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection, serious covid-19, or other acute respiratory infections compared with placebo. Our CSO Arne Søraas, was the principal investigator in his capacity as a researcher at the University Hospital, and our CEO Karl Trygve Kalleberg was a co-author on the study.

The study was published together with a similar study from the UK where patients were given vitamin D supplementation, and the BMJ  ran an editorial on the subject.

The study concluded that supplementation with cod liver oil in the winter did not reduce the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection, serious covid-19, or other acute respiratory infections compared with placebo.
